About

I am the founder and owner of JSO Guitarworks. I have been an amateur musician for most of my adult life. Whether involved in singing or playing an instrument, my love for music has been a constant. I have also had an on-going love for woodworking. I attribute the joy I find in working with my hands to my father’s influence. He was a true craftsman. That interest and background led me to the point of adding the word “Luthier” to my vocabulary and then seeking to become one. I started on that “journey” in the late ‘90s making my first acoustic guitar. To my delight, the wood (beautiful in itself), when fashioned into an instrument, produced beautiful sounds! After that I was hooked on building.

My passion for instrument repair grew during time spent at the Atlanta Guitar Works studying under Tim Joy, Gary Moore and Brian Malone. Their holistic approach to building AND repair enlarged my perspective. An understanding of the key elements that influence playability provides a strong foundation for both building and repair. I approach each project as an opportunity to express the creativity God has given me in a way that delights the client. I am on a life-long journey learning and exploring the wonders of wood, sound, and music. My shop is located in up-state NY just outside of Rochester in the town of Churchville. I invite you to contact me to find out more about JSO Guitarworks and discuss how I might be of service to you.
